Stephen Massimilla - Sample Courses


		The History and Philosophy of Science And overview of classical texts in the history and philosophy of science. In this class, we will read the pre-Socratics, Aristotle, Euclid, Galileo, Bacon, Newton, Leibnitz, Darwin, Hawkings, and Stephen Jay Gould, discussing not only the scientific, but also the theological, sociological, and political implications of their discoveries. Relevant literary texts will include plays such as Brecht’s Galileo, Shaw’s The Doctor’s Dilemma, and Copenhagen. Topics may include the evolution-creationism debate, bioethics, AIDS, and ecosystem issues. <--- Return to List of Courses
